5 Osaka Eats To Try

Takoyaki

Dotonbori Honke Ootako              Takoyaki Dotonbori Kukuru                         Creo-ru

Octopus inside a fried wheat ball drenched in sauce and mayonnaise = takoyaki.  With so many recommendations by Tsunagu Japan, I decided to choose 3 located in Dotonbori.  The idea is to buy one from each stall and share among the 5 of us.

Okonomiyaki

          Mizuno                                                                                        Houzenji Sanpei

Another wheat based food, this time with vegetables and meat and of course lots of sauce.  Again based on recommendations by Tsunagu Japan, I picked 2 within Dotonbori.  My group is not crazy about okonomiyaki, so we may just decide to give it a miss.

Kushikatsu

Kushikatsu Daruma                               Kushiya Monogatari                                                                        Kushikatsu Daruma

Kushi (串)refers to the skewers used and katsu means a deep fried cutlet of meat.  I have 2 choices – Kushiya at Namba Parks where you choose, batter and fry the skewered stuff yourself that comes with a salad and dessert buffet OR Daruma, a well known establishment in Dotonbori where you got to remember not to dip your kushikatsu into the sauce twice because the dipping sauce is shared with strangers.

Cheesecake

Rikuro Ojisan vs, Pablo.  Light & fluffy vs. rich & creamy.  There is an ongoing “war” between these 2 cheesecake shops.  Both have their own die hard fans.  I wonder which side will I be joining…

Gourmet Snacks

poki1

Glico Pocky sticks and Calbee potato chips are snacks that are commonly found in Singapore.  I’m not terribly fond of snacks but I’m game to try new food.  So when I read that Glico and Calbee created atas (high class in Singlish) bread sticks and chips, it piqued my interest to try them. Glico’s Baton d’or has unique flavours like sugar butter, Uji matcha and purple sweet potato. All 3 sounds heavenly.  Calbee’s Grand Calbee premium potato chips are 3x thicker than the normal ones, and has flavours like apple, tomato and burnt milk.

Looks like an increase in weight is inevitable.
